SWAMEDICATION DESCRIPTION OF A CHILDREN’S COUGH IN THE WORKING AREA IN TAMAN SUBDRISTRICT, PEMALANG REGENCY

Abstract

Toddlers are children under 5 years of age with rapid growth characteristics at the age of 0-1 years, where at 5 months of age, body weight increases 2 times birth weight and body weight increases 3 times from birth weight at 1 year of age and becomes 4 times at 2 years old. Coughing is a mechanism that clears the airway of irritants or foreign objects and excess mucus. Coughing is a very important mechanism for keeping the airway open by getting rid of incoming irritants and the resulting mucus secretions that accumulate in the form of a strong force of air from the lungs to expel the irritant or mucus. Self-medication means treating all complaints to oneself with simple medicines that can be purchased at pharmacies or drugstores and on one's own initiative without doctor's advice. Self-medication or self-medication is the activity or act of treating oneself with drugs without a prescription appropriately and responsibly. The meaning of self-medication is that the patient himself chooses over-the-counter medicine to treat the illness he is suffering from. . This study aims to determine cough self-medication in children. The research design is a quantitative descriptive study with an analytic survey approach with a questionnaire method. The results of this study found that most of the respondents gave sufficient category of children's cough self-medication, namely 38 respondents (47%). The results of this study recommend that health workers provide health promotion to further increase the knowledge of mothers under five about medicines that are in accordance with the type of cough and the types of coughs.
