Abstract

Abstract Disorders of visual acuity are the problems that often occur in school-age children, and it is a serious health problem. There are three behavioral factors of gadgets use that can affect children's visual acuity namely, the intensity of gadgets use, visibility, and body position when using gadgets itself. The purpose of this study was to determine relationship among intensity use, visibility and body position when using gadgets with visual acuity of the fifth and sixth-grade students of SDK Citra Bangsa Kupang. The research design used in this study was Correlational study using a cross-sectional study design. The sampling technique used was total sampling with a total sample of 110 respondents. Data collection for the dependent variable was conducted by using a Snellen chart card, while the data collection for the independent variable was conducted by using questionnaire, observation sheet, and meter. Based on the results of the Spearman rank test, there was a significant relationship among intensity use, visibility, and body position when using gadgets with visual acuity of the fifth and sixth-grade students of SDK Citra Bangsa Kupang with a value of p = 0,000. It was concluded that there was no relationship between visibility and visual acuity of the fifth and sixth-grade students of SDK Citra Bangsa Kupang with a value of p = 0.071. It was also found that there was no relationship between body position and visual acuity of the fifth and sixth-grade students of SDK Citra Bangsa Kupang with a value of p = 0.445. It is expected that respondents and the public become aware of the occurrence of decreased visual acuity by limiting the use of gadgets in children at least less than 2 hours / day, visibility more than 30 cm and with a good body position.   Keywords: Gadget, visual acuity, school children
